The Avios Availability Calendar

Avios finally has a month-at-a-glance reward search. Here is how to use the new calendar tool, read its symbols, and work around the limitations it still has.

Last updated: September 2026 7 min read

Searching for Avios reward seats used to mean clicking through one date at a time. The new Avios.com calendar changes that for British Airways, Iberia and Aer Lingus — but it is a search tool, not a booking tool, and knowing its quirks is the difference between a quick win and a wasted hour.

1. What the Avios availability calendar is

For years, finding Avios reward seats meant checking one date at a time — a slow, maddening grind. In August 2026, Avios.com launched a free “Find Reward Flights” calendar that finally shows a whole month of availability at a glance for flights operated by British Airways, Iberia and Aer Lingus.

It is a genuine step forward, but it is a search tool, not a booking tool, and it comes with real limitations. Used well — alongside BA’s Reward Flight Finder — it can save you hours. This guide shows you exactly how.

2. How to use it, step by step

  1. 1Log in to a free Avios account. The calendar lives on Avios.com and requires you to be signed in to a (free) Avios loyalty account.
  2. 2Enter your trip details. Add your origin and destination airports, the number of passengers, and the month you want to travel.
  3. 3Filter by cabin. Tick or untick economy, premium economy, business and first to focus the calendar on the cabins you care about.
  4. 4Read the month at a glance. The calendar marks each date with a symbol for how much availability exists, so you can spot open dates instantly.
  5. 5Hover for detail. Hovering over a date reveals the number of seats, the cabins available and the Avios cost for that day.
  6. 6Finish on the airline site. When you find a date you like, head to the operating airline’s website to see the exact taxes and complete the booking.

3. Reading the availability symbols

The calendar uses simple visual markers so you can scan a month in seconds:

A full circle signals good availability — several reward seats open in the cabins you have selected.
A half circle means limited availability — typically just one or two seats, so move quickly.
No marker means no reward seats in your chosen cabins on that date — try adjusting the cabin filter or a nearby day.

Hover before you get excited. A full circle in business class might still be an off-peak date — hovering confirms the exact Avios cost, which our peak vs off-peak guide can help you make sense of.

The seats the calendar cannot show you

The Avios calendar — like every public tool — cannot see companion-voucher reward seats. The British Airways Amex Premium Plus voucher unlocks a ring-fenced pool of extra Club World seats.

4. The limitations you must know

Nonstop flights only — connecting journeys must be searched leg by leg.
No direct booking — you always finish on the airline’s own website.
No taxes or surcharges shown — and these vary hugely between the three airlines.
BA, Iberia and Aer Lingus only — Qatar Airways and Finnair are not included.
Hub-centric — works best from London Heathrow, Madrid and Dublin.
A snapshot — availability changes constantly, so re-check before you commit.

5. Calendar vs BA’s Reward Flight Finder

The two free tools complement each other. Use the Avios calendar to find promising dates fast, then switch to BA’s Reward Flight Finder to see taxes and actually book.
