Hotel Points to Avios

You can turn hotel points into Avios — but should you? Here are the real ratios for Marriott, IHG, Hilton and Hyatt, and the one programme that actually makes it worthwhile.

Last updated: September 2026 6 min read

Hotel loyalty points and airline Avios are different currencies with very different value. Transferring between them almost always loses value — with one clear exception. This guide shows the real numbers so you only transfer when it genuinely helps.

1. The short verdict

For almost every programme, hotel points are worth more as hotel nights than as Avios. The transfer ratios into Avios are generally poor. The single exception is Marriott Bonvoy, whose large-transfer bonus makes it a genuinely useful way to top up an Avios balance.

Rule of thumb: only transfer hotel points to Avios when you are a small amount short of a specific redemption and have no better source. Otherwise, keep them for hotels.

2. The ratios at a glance

ProgrammeRate to AviosVerdict
Marriott Bonvoy3:1 (bonus on 60k)Worth it
IHG One Rewards10,000 : 2,000Only to top up
Hilton Honors10,000 : 1,000Avoid
World of HyattNot availableN/A
Marriott Bonvoy. 60,000 Bonvoy in one transfer = 25,000 Avios (20,000 + 5,000 bonus). Transfer 3,000–240,000/day, 1–5 business days.
IHG One Rewards. A 5:1 rate. You can set an earning preference to Avios or contact IHG. Poor value unless finishing a specific booking.
Hilton Honors. A 10:1 rate via Honors Reward Exchange — very poor. Hilton points are far better spent on Hilton nights.
World of Hyatt. Hyatt does not transfer to Avios in 2026. Keep Hyatt points for Hyatt redemptions.

3. Marriott is the pick

Marriott Bonvoy transfers at a base 3:1, but moving 60,000 points in a single transaction earns 20,000 Avios plus a 5,000-Avios bonus — 25,000 Avios in total. That bonus is a permanent feature, not a promotion. The same route works into Iberia, Aer Lingus, Qatar and Vueling as well as BA. See the full Marriott Bonvoy to Avios guide for the mechanics.

4. When a transfer is worth it

You are just short. A few thousand Avios shy of a redemption with no better source — a top-up saves the booking.
You have surplus Marriott points. A large Bonvoy balance you will not use on hotels converts respectably thanks to the bonus.
Prefer credit-card points. Amex or Chase points move to Avios at 1:1 — always a better top-up than hotel points where you have the choice.
